INFO:My view to Dance & Music

When a performance of dance accompanied by music presents, as an “outsider” of dance, the first thought comes to my mind is that the body movements are the “results” of the music especially when the dance is said to be choreographed.

There are specific elements that I come up with:

1) Some movements of “Accents”, creating a rhythm    of the whole set movements and the rhythm          usually comes from the accompanying music

2) Some enlarging and gradually exaggerating          movements with an ascending phase (dynamics)

3) Repetition of movements with repeating music      phrase

4) Holding breath along with the movements in        silence

In case I don’t know whether the movements are the “result”, I’d say that there is a linkage between music and dance. The combination of them is to be one statement.

Why do I have such view?

I call myself an “outsider” of dance, simply because I don’t really have any “actual” experience of dancing. I learnt Jazz dance when I was little but regrettably I gave up. Despite the fact that I seldom really dance, I enjoy dancing performance. The majority of the dance I watch the most is Ballet or pop dance, to be honest.

For ballet shows, I have enjoyed "Romeo and Juliet", "The Nutcracker", "Swan Lake", "Cinderella", "The Sleeping Beauty". Most of them are classical Ballet performance. The music of these pieces are so familiar that once I watch the performance, the dance and the music easily combine to be one statement and it seems that they are linked.

But by studying and experiencing more, I find that dance and music can be more than accompanying each other.
